I search charity shops for books and old magazines. 1960-80's magazines for girls and boys are a favourite of mine. So are old cookery books and books on crafts and home economics. I love the photos which show the perfect way to do up your curtains or how to stuff the turkey. Tools and machinery interest me as they tell stories of the people who used them. Traces are left in the rust of the ladle or the grease of the handle of an old hammer. To me, this is as good as a portrait.
